The Georgia Polygraph Association was hosted by Major Tommy Wheeler and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office who were gracious in not only providing a great meeting room but breakfast and Lunch which were clearly enjoyed by all. In the business meeting we discussed a variety of topics including upcoming elections for 2012 and the current State requirements for Post Conviction Sex Offender testing.

Training on the use of polygraph in the asset forfeiture process was presented by retired DEA agent Don Imbordino. The use of polygraph in this process is not common outside the Federal government so the training was well received by the membership. Mr. Imbordino’s years of experience and skill as an instructor brought the topic to life.

The Georgia Polygraph Association honored retiring member Allan E. Stein with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Allan has been a polygraph examiner since 1967 when he was serving with the Army Criminal Investigation Division. He has directed major loss prevention programs involving polygraph programs and has owned both a private investigations company and a polygraph company. He has also served as an Instructor of the polygraph sciences at the US Army polygraph school, the American International Institute of Polygraph, and the Troy University Polygraph Center. The GPA has been proud to count him among our membership.

Training

Training on the use of countermeasure in polygraph was presented by Steve Duncan. The major categories of countermeasures currently being attempted by examinees were discussed and examples demonstrated through chart analysis. His presentation was both informative and thought provoking.

Standards

The Georgia Polygraph Association voted to accept a set of professional standards that includes all standards established for the American Polygraph Association. This establishes the Association standards as a fluid document changing whenever the standards for the APA change. Also included are standards specific to the Association. These are abased on requirements in the State of Georgia.

Our May meeting was a huge success with 23 members and guests in attendance. A large contingent of the GBI Polygraph Unit (both members and non-members) was welcomed warmly. Non-members were invited to join us and help in our efforts to keep polygraph in Georgia of the highest professional standard. Several dignitaries from Macon came to the meeting including Macon PD Deputy Chief Henderson Carswell, the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Greg Winters, and Assistant District Attorney Kim Schwartz.

Training was a fascinating talk by Don Berecz on his experiences as an FBI white collar crime investigator and polygraph examiner. Don retired from the FBI after 23 years of service and now is the Director Center for Forensic Studies in Accounting and Business at Georgia Southern University.
